TACC is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Roxbury’s Nubian Square tackling community-identified barriers through economic and workforce development, research, and policy strategies that expand pathways to meaningful opportunities.
**About Waterways: **
Waterways: Connecting Residents of Roxbury and Dorchester to Boston’s Waterfront is expanding access to Boston’s waterfront and increasing the number of Roxbury and Dorchester residents benefitting from living in a coastal city. Boston is a coastal city with 47 miles of shoreline and Boston Harbor is the city’s largest public open space. Through Waterways, TACC is implementing strategies that reduce community-identified barriers to accessing the waterfront and increase health, employment, and economic benefits. At TACC, it is about way more than water. Our goal is to elevate community voices to shape programs, policies, and accessibility, ensuring that as the waterfront evolves, it does so equitably.
**Job Responsibilities: **
The Community Engagement Coordinator will be a key member of the Waterways team with primary responsibility for expanding Roxbury and Dorchester resident advocacy for the waterfront from within the community and through public programs. The Community Engagement Coordinator will work closely with TACC’s Director of Policy and Partnerships.
The Community Engagement Coordinator will:
- Coordinate and run TACC’s established public waterfront programs, adding new programs
- as needed;
- Regularly send out newsletters, update social media accounts, table at community programs, and seek out opportunities to interface with new audiences;
- Coordinate and foster the resident Waterways Ambassadors network by:
- Running annual Waterways Ambassadors training sessions;
- Co-creating/developing the materials and tools residents need to express themselves as advocates for the waterfront in their communities;
- Co-creating/developing materials and tools that encourage residents to advocate for climate change by drawing attention to the interconnectedness of waterfront and neighborhood conditions (e.g., sea level rise and heat islands);
- Using an established equity framework, foster a meaningful ongoing role for Ambassadors in planning, running, and evaluating large-scale, free waterfront programs;
- Bring existing waterfront resources into the neighborhood including: youth and adult waterfront educational and training opportunities, apprenticeship programs, certificate courses, docent training, and other aligned opportunities;
- Maintain strong working relationships with waterfront partners so that resources are directed to and meet the needs of the communities TACC serves;
- Continue to foster a robust network of resident service coordinators at public and subsidized housing communities and other community stakeholders currently supporting waterfront recreational programming, expanding and aligning this work with other project outcomes (e.g., health, employment);
- Coordinate multilingual communication to the Roxbury and Dorchester communities focused on reaching lower-income, racially/ethnically diverse residents;
- Represent TACC at relevant meetings and events;
- Contribute to other TACC initiatives; and
- Other tasks, as assigned.
**Qualifications: **
Candidates for this position should have:
- Familiarity with the Roxbury and Dorchester communities;
- Commitment to advancing racial equity coupled with some knowledge of Boston’s current racial inequalities;
- Experience developing and implementing innovative and effective community engagement processes that successfully drive outcomes;
- Strong communication skills including listening, networking, relationship building, as well as writing;
- Curiosity, enthusiasm, and ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
- Educational requirements are flexible and could include bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or a combination of high school diploma/previous work experience;
- Multilingual skills preferred; and
- Candidates are not limited to those with prior waterfront work experience. Applicants with relevant experience (both paid positions and volunteer roles) in aligned areas (e.g., workforce development, climate/environmental justice, community building in neighborhood/school/faith/other community) are encouraged to apply.
**Compensation: **
This is a full-time, in-person 40-hours per week position at 2136 Washington Street in Nubian Square. The position will require some evening and weekend work hours, particularly during the summers. The salary is budgeted at $60,000 per year plus a benefits package including health insurance, paid vacation, and other benefits. This is an existing grant-supported position that is currently funded through December 2027; TACC is committed to securing ongoing funding to sustain this position beyond December 2027.
