Bring your family, friends, and neighbors along for a fun, free day of sailing and science on the Charles River waterfront!

What is Sailing + Science? The program includes a variety of on-the-water and on-land activities on the Charles River and along the Esplanade for residents of Roxbury and Dorchester and their families and friends!

Activities are based in and around Community Boating located at 21 David G. Mugar Way, Boston, MA 02114 inside the Charles River Esplanade.

The day includes:

  • Sailing--no experience necessary, we provide the equipment and the experts! You can sail with your family and friends with the assistance of an experienced skipper.
  • Kayaking
  • Picnic along the Charles Rver (lunch provided)
  • Ice cream from Gerly's Ice Cream
  • Use a state-of-the-art microscope to explore water quality with BioBus
  • Explore the Charles River Esplanade with an orienteering activity with Navigation Games
  • Pick up some binoculars (we provide) and count birds with the Brookline Bird Club
  • Visit the Museum of Science
  • Learn more about cool public spaces, climate change, and what the Charles River waterfront has to offer you
  • Learn about the health benefits of the waterfront
  • And more!
