BOSTON – The Board of Directors of The American City Coalition (TACC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Araujo as Executive Director.

“Christine is a bold thinker who will reorient TACC to be even more responsive to our mission of being a positive change agent,” said Joseph E. Corcoran, Founder and President of the Board of Directors. “She brings a wealth of experience helping to promote economic development and address needs and opportunities.”

“I am honored by this appointment,” said Araujo. “TACC will strategically contribute to supporting Roxbury’s unique and extraordinary resources, and promote greater access to opportunity for all residents of Roxbury.”

Araujo brings many years of experience in community development, land use planning, and social services in Boston’s neighborhoods. From 2001 to 2004, Araujo served as Executive Director of Boston Connects Inc., where she was responsible for implementing the economic and human development goals of Boston’s federal Empowerment Zone. A product of this investment, Crosstown Development Phase I, has spurred increased economic opportunity in Lower Roxbury.

Araujo has held a range of positions in the public and nonprofit sectors. At Action for Boston Community Development, she focused on adult education and training, and homelessness. At the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, she introduced project management as a business practice, helped strengthen municipalities’ capacity to expand affordable housing, and participated in a homelessness placement strategy. During her decade at the Boston Planning and Development Agency, she served first as a planner and later as the Deputy Director of Neighborhood Planning and Zoning. More recently, she has promoted the economic mobility of Boston’s residents.

Araujo holds an undergraduate degree from Vassar College and a Master of City and Regional Planning degree from Pratt Institute.

Please join me in welcoming Christine to TACC.

Warm Regards,
Joseph E. Corcoran
