Statement on Racial Injustice
TACC stands in solidarity with youth, community members, and activists who are protesting in Roxbury, Boston, and nationally, giving voice to those who have consistently and generationally had their humanity derogated, and resisting inequity.
Violence and injustice should never be normal. Unfortunately, in Roxbury and other centers of Black life, joy, and culture, the examples of police brutality reaching national attention are all too familiar. These acts of violence are not new, and result from a long history of complex systems that have disenfranchised and harmed Black souls since the country’s founding.
As a Nubian Square-based nonprofit, the challenges Boston’s Black community face due to pervasive inequity are evident daily; in recent months, these inequities have been further amplified and worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our mission, which is as relevant today as it was since our founding in 1994, is to identify and respond to unmet needs of residents and businesses in and around Nubian Square, the heart of Boston’s Black and Afro-centric community, most impacted by social, economic, and racial inequity, and expand multi-sector/multi-stakeholder partnerships and resources that will result in positive, lasting change.
We know there is much work to be done to address racial inequity. Guided by our core values of Community Empowerment, Social Justice, and Diversity in each of our organization’s expenditures, reports, and policy implementation, TACC is committed to taking action and doing our part.
